FAQ - Everything You Need
to Know Before You Call.
16 years of callouts means 16 years of questions. Here are the ones we hear most – answered honestly.
Who We Are
Are you a real recovery company or a broker?
We’re a real company. MJC Auto Recovery Ltd, registered at Companies House (15926631). Eight operators, six vehicles, based across four London hubs. No brokering, no subcontracting. When you call us, an MJC operator answers. When we dispatch, an MJC vehicle arrives with an MJC mechanic/driver.
How long has mjc been operating?
Since 2010.
That’s 16 years of keeping London drivers moving. Thousands of breakdowns of every vehicle type imaginable, 5.0-star ratings on Google and a lot of lessons learnt about what actually works when you’re stuck.
Do you ever subcontract jobs to other drivers?
Never. It is always an MJC driver who arrives. We don’t trust anyone else to do our job for us.
Do you have insurance for my vehicle?
Yes, absolutely. MJC ensures that all our operators are covered by Full Motor Trade Cover, which includes not only driving a recovery vehicle but also the vehicles we transport, and have Public Liability Insurance, as we’re required to work in public spaces and/or at customer properties.
Before You Call
How quickly can you get to me in London?
On average, we arrive within 35–45 minutes. 80% of our customers see us within 30–60 minutes. We’ll send a live ETA by text so you’re not left guessing
Are you really available 24/7? Even on bank holidays?
Absolutely. Since 2010, we’ve been out there 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Breakdowns don’t check the calendar, and neither do we. Christmas Day, 3 am Friday night, if you’re stuck, we’re on our way.
How do I tell you where I am if I don't know the address?
Use what3words. Tap the button in our contact form, and it automatically detects your exact location. Share those three words, and we’ll find you to within 3 metres – on a motorway, in a car park, off the beaten track at a remote camping location, anywhere.
Pricing
How much will it cost?
Local car recovery from £75. Jump start £70 fixed. Diagnostics £80 fixed. Long-distance from £1.30/mile on top of the local charge – agreed before we leave. No hidden extras. No 3am surcharges.
Do you offer discounts?
Yes. Blue light staff, key workers, repeat customers, senior citizens, trade customers, long-distance jobs, multi-vehicle removal, and anyone having a really, really bad day.
Just ask when you call.
Do I need breakdown cover or membership to use MJC?
No. No membership. No subscription. No call-out fee. You call, we come, you pay a fixed price agreed in advance. That’s it.
Our Services
Do you just tow cars away, or can you fix them on the spot?
We’re mechanics first. Sixteen years taught us that not every breakdown needs a tow. We’ll diagnose the issue – loose wires, flat battery, a puncture, or a simple fault. We’ll get you on your way in minutes if we can. No unnecessary recovery.
Can you recover a vans and larger vehicles?
Yes. We have 3.5t flatbeds, double and triple-axel beavertail trailers, and our 7.5t tilt-slide flatbed. Between them, they can handle SWB, LWB, Luton, high-roof and crew vans. Extended ramps, weight-rated straps, and experienced operators.
Call to discuss your specific vehicle, and we’ll confirm we can handle it.
Do you recover from underground car parks?
Yes – we handle this almost every other day in London. Specialised low-profile equipment, wheel skates for tight bays, and operators experienced in working within height restrictions. If a car park is stressing you out, we’ve probably worked in it before.
EV Recovery
Do you handle EV Recovery?
Yes. We’ve recovered Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Nissan Leaf, Nissan Ariya, Hyundai Ioniq, Kia, VW ID.3, ID.4, MG4, Fiat 500 EV, Audi e-tron, Porsche Taycan, BMW iX, Skoda and Peugeot EVs. We know tow mode (transport mode) protocols, understand the 12V vs high-voltage traction battery differences, and only use flatbeds.
Check out our insights to get a better understanding of how we handle Electric Vehicles.
Why flatbed only for Electric Vehicles?
Wheel-lift or dolly towing can engage the regenerative braking system, causing serious damage to the drivetrain. Flatbed-only is the safe and correct method for every EV, and it’s the only method we use. No exceptions.
Do you charge more for recovering an EV than a petrol car?
No, our pricing is fair either way. We’re trained in EV recovery and use the right equipment, so there’s no penalty for driving electric. You get the same honest quote, agreed before we leave.
Classic Car Recovery
Can you recover my classic car?
With care, yes. We’ve moved everything from a 1956 Porsche 356 to a Ferrari 296 to a Lancia Delta Integrale Evolution. Flatbeds with soft straps, wheel chocks, and gentle loading. No shortcuts.
My car is very low. Can you still load it?
Almost certainly yes. We carry specialist low-clearance loading ramps designed for sports cars, kit cars and modified vehicles. If you’re worried, tell us the make, model and any modifications when you call, and we’ll confirm before we dispatch.
